Medical Certificate for a Driver (Form 083/o): The First Step to Getting Your License

To get a driver's license, it's not enough just to learn to drive. The first and mandatory stage is obtaining a driver's medical certificate (Form 083/o). This document confirms that your health allows you to safely drive a vehicle.

The Association of Driving Schools has prepared a detailed step-by-step guide for you to quickly and easily get the necessary certificate and start your training.

Why is a medical certificate mandatory?

A medical examination for a driver is not just a formality. It is an important procedure with two key goals:

  1. Protecting your health: Doctors determine whether you have any contraindications that could pose a threat to you personally.
  2. Road safety: A driver who sees well and has no medical restrictions is less prone to accidents. Thus, a medical certificate is a guarantee of safety for all road users.

Where and how to get a medical certificate?

The procedure for obtaining the certificate involves an examination by several specialists. Usually, this process takes no more than one day.

Please note: The Association of Driving Schools does not engage in the sale or issuance of medical certificates. This certificate can be obtained at any medical institution (public or private) that has the appropriate license. If necessary, we can recommend trusted partners we rely on.

To undergo the medical examination, you will need:

  • Passport or ID card with an extract from the register
  • Identification code (tax ID)
  • Two 3x4 cm photos
  • Military ID or conscription certificate (for men)

List of mandatory doctors:

  • Therapist: Will assess your general health, measure blood pressure and pulse.
  • Ophthalmologist: Will check your vision, as road safety directly depends on it.
  • Otolaryngologist (ENT): Will assess hearing and the state of the vestibular system.
  • Neurologist: Will check the nervous system and reflexes.

In some cases, additional examinations may be required.

Certificate validity period and contraindications

A driver's medical certificate has a limited validity period that depends on your age and professional activity:

  • Amateur drivers up to 55 years old: the certificate is valid for 10 years.
  • Amateur drivers from 55 to 75 years old: the certificate is valid for 3 years.
  • Amateur drivers after 75 years old: the certificate is valid for 1 year.
  • Professional drivers: must undergo a medical examination annually.

There are also medical contraindications that make it impossible to get a license: certain diseases of the cardiovascular system, nervous disorders, significant vision or hearing problems.
