Category "B" Rights: Guide to Opportunities & Limitations

Obtaining a Category "B" driver's license is the most popular goal for future drivers. However, even experienced motorists don't always know the exact limits of their rights. The Association of Driving Schools has prepared a detailed breakdown of what exactly you can drive and what limitations the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) warns about.

What does Category "B" allow?

According to current regulations, with this category, you are entitled to drive:

  • Passenger cars with a maximum authorized mass not exceeding 3500 kg.

  • Vehicles with no more than 8 seats (excluding the driver's seat). That is, the "8 passengers + 1 driver" format is your maximum.

This applies not only to standard sedans but also to crossovers, SUVs, and even small minibuses, provided they meet the specified weight and capacity parameters.

Towing Rules

Many drivers forget the nuances of towing. With a Category "B" license, you can use a trailer if its mass does not exceed 750 kg. If the trailer is heavier and the total weight of the combination (car + trailer) exceeds 3500 kg, you will need an additional category — BE.

What is Prohibited?

It is important to remember that Category "B" does not grant the right to drive:

  • Motorcycles (Category A/A1 required);

  • Trucks weighing over 3500 kg (Category C1/C);

  • Buses designed for more than 8 passengers (Category D1/D).
